How to choose Driftwood
Aquarium driftwood is not suitable for all types of fish tanks. It is mostly suited for freshwater aquariums. Some freshwater fishes often like to have a bite of the driftwood occasionally. It should not be used for seawater aquariums or for reptile tanks. Another thing to look for is the shape of the driftwood. There are all different sizes and shapes available to choose from. To choose the right driftwood, you should consider the size and shape of the tank and the fish you are planning to keep in the tank. If there are small fishes then it is a good idea to have small holes in the driftwood so that the fishes can go swimming along the holes or play hide and seek among them. If there are large fishes then have plain driftwood without holes to make it look natural.
Driftwood comes in various shapes ranging from thin twigs to small logs. Depending on the other decorations that you are having in the tank you can choose the size of the driftwood. But you should be careful not to have excess decorations in the tank. Overfilling the tank with too many decorations is not good for fish as it will not give adequate space for them to swim and play. Caution: Only buy the aquarium driftwood from a shop that sells fish tank supplies so that you get chemically treated logs that will withstand the tank. You may have a tendency to use natural driftwood thinking that it might add a natural flavor to the fish tank. But if you use the natural driftwood that you find in the outdoors it will decay in the tank and may damage the fish. So make sure that you choose chemically treated driftwood for your fish tank.
