PROPER HEAT FOR THE AQUARIUM
THE temperature in the aquarium should be kept between 74 and 78 degrees if possible. A fluctuation of a few degrees is not harmful. It is more a question of getting your fish used to your particular room temperature. What must be avoided at all times is a sudden drop, as from 74 to 60 degrees, in a short space of time. This will cause trouble. Take precautions to see that it does not happen. While the temperature may be suitable during the day, at night the room may become cool. As room temperature affects the aquarium water, the larger the aquarium the less rapid the fluctuations. A point in favor of a larger aquarium. (continued below)....
To alleviate the mind, there are quite a few good heaters on the market. A reliable unit equipped with automatic control will insure an even temperature at all times. The steady way it reacts to sudden changes in room temperature reminds one of a silent sentinel always on duty. Remember, a good heater and thermostat, though a little more expensive, can be depended upon, whereas a cheap heater cannot. Since your collection of fish will be worth many times what your heater cost, this s indeed an insurance worth taking.
